My Story

Kristen Bowen is a passionate dance educator, choreographer, movement specialist, and professional adjudicator with more than 15 years of experience in dance education, choreography, and performance training.

As the Owner & Director of The Dance Centre, Kristen is committed to creating a studio environment where dancers are challenged to grow, supported as individuals, and encouraged to develop confidence both inside and outside the studio. Her philosophy is rooted in the belief that strong dancers are built from the inside out — combining technical excellence with physical strength, artistry, confidence, and a healthy relationship with movement.

Kristen holds a Diploma in Exercise Science and is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, with additional training and certifications through Acrobatic Arts, ADAPT, PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique), Tap Roots, RAD, and other dance education and movement-based programs. She also holds a Certificate in Sports Psychology and is a professional adjudicator on the PRISM Adjudicator Roster.

Kristen is a member of Healthy Dancer Canada and IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association), and continues to pursue professional development across dance education, movement science, physical training, and dancer wellness.

Her background in exercise science and performance training has shaped her approach to dance education, with a particular focus on strength, injury prevention, longevity, and helping dancers understand and connect with their own bodies. She believes that dancers should be equipped with more than just steps — they should understand how their bodies work, how to train effectively, and how to build sustainable careers in dance.

Throughout her career, Kristen has had the opportunity to teach and mentor dancers who have gone on to pursue professional opportunities across the performing arts. Her students have performed professionally with organizations including Drayton Entertainment, the Stratford Festival, the National Ballet of Canada, and more.

Kristen has also had the opportunity to work with and learn from respected artists and educators such as Starsha Dalmer, Deborah Thomson, Tiffany McLaughlan, Desmond Osbourne and more. Which she brings those experiences into the classroom and uses them to help dancers develop both their technical abilities and their individuality as performers.

As an educator, Kristen believes that dancers are human first and dancers second. She strives to create an environment where students can work hard, be challenged, make mistakes, build resilience, and develop confidence while still experiencing the joy that makes dance so meaningful.

At TDC, Kristen is excited to continue building a studio community where dancers can develop their skills, discover their individuality, and become not only stronger performers, but stronger, more confident humans
